Knitter’s Notebook – with Helen Spedding

The Knitter’s operations editor, Helen Spedding, has been looking for new challenges, and shares details of the three knitty items that are inspiring her at the moment.

Dutch Knitting book Het Breien

1 “On a whim, I bought a 19th century Dutch book of stitch patterns that I came across on Amazon, called Het Breien, (pictured above) and have decided that my challenge for2013 is to knit a few of the designs. Even if I never get around to translating the Dutch instructions, though, this is still a beautiful item to own!”

Arne & Carlos Knitted Dolls2 “I’m not a toy knitter, but both my daughter and I fell in love with Arne & Carlos’s creations in their new book, Knitted Dolls With A Designer Wardrobe. Polly has had so much fun choosing the hair, features and clothes for her doll – who’s going to be a very fashionably dressed young lady once she is finished!”

From Search Press or Amazon, RRP £14.99

Lilly France Bowland shawl“I’ve been following the blossoming career of young designer Lily France, and was delighted to hear that her mother, Amanda, has just published her first design. Called ‘Bowland’, it’s a garter stitch shawl with a lovely lace panel.

Debbie Bliss Rialto LaceI’m knitting it in Debbie Bliss Rialto Lace, in a gorgeous royal blue shade.”
