The Knitter’s operations editor, Helen Spedding, has been looking for new challenges, and shares details of the three knitty items that are inspiring her at the moment.

1 “On a whim, I bought a 19th century Dutch book of stitch patterns that I came across on Amazon, called Het Breien, (pictured above) and have decided that my challenge for2013 is to knit a few of the designs. Even if I never get around to translating the Dutch instructions, though, this is still a beautiful item to own!”
2 “I’m not a toy knitter, but both my daughter and I fell in love with Arne & Carlos’s creations in their new book, Knitted Dolls With A Designer Wardrobe. Polly has had so much fun choosing the hair, features and clothes for her doll – who’s going to be a very fashionably dressed young lady once she is finished!”
From Search Press or Amazon, RRP £14.99
3 “I’ve been following the blossoming career of young designer Lily France, and was delighted to hear that her mother, Amanda, has just published her first design. Called ‘Bowland’, it’s a garter stitch shawl with a lovely lace panel.
I’m knitting it in Debbie Bliss Rialto Lace, in a gorgeous royal blue shade.”
